Art Fag City
The NADA Emerging Artist
Tucker Nichols
With a background in Chinese painting studies, Tucker Nichols’ work is often inspired by the fundamentals of calligraphy (the highest art form in traditional China) that emphasize not only the aesthetics of poetry but the importance of each brushstroke. This image shows a text piece that also alludes to a wide range of practices from performance art to graffiti to plein air painting. However, in place of paint, the artist has employed the immediate and impermanent medium of tape. The bright orange lettering screams out from the apparent edge of the world with a message of assurance — a reminder to take a break from the “urgency” of city life.

Tucker Nichols’ work is presented by NADA member gallery, ZieherSmith.
