Sex Doll Exhibition: Readymade art, much bustier than Duchamp's urinal

Filed Under:

Everyone loves a good sex doll, some more than others. Lynn Hershman Leeson's new photo and installation exhibition at Chelsea's bitforms gallery, "Found Objects", focuses on "assembly-line produced female sex dolls to examine issues of projected fantasies and the mythology of artificial women." The exhibition features narrative-suggesting photos of the sex dolls in dramatic poses (like 'Warning,' pictured), as well as an installation in which images of Edouard Manet's "Olympia" are projected onto a sex doll (the installation is called "Olympia: Fictive Projections and the Myth of the Real Woman"). Insert some kind of shrugging joke about how the only art shows that immediately appeal to me on paper have sex dolls, magazines, stewardesses, or dinosaurs.

The exhibition opened on Saturday, and will close on May 31.
